Major shortcomings in cancer care system

A new audit by the Supreme State Audit Office (KLSH) revealed that Albania’s public oncology treatment system is suffering serious deficiencies: many anti‑tumour drugs are missing or expired, equipment is outdated or malfunctioning, staffing is inadequate, and the regulatory process for medications is inefficient.

This highlights a humanitarian concern: as cancer is one of the top causes of death, the system’s failures pose a major risk to patients and the social contract between state and citizens.
